The participants of the parliamentary hearings “On the status and development prospects of the military and security sector of Ukraine” discussed how to build a modern army of the European type that will adequately react on the threats of the national security.
Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in his opening remarks stressed that one of the most difficult questions of Ukrainian statehood, where intertwine internal and external factors, economic and social issues, technological and human factors, absence of prospective legal corridor for creating a strong military and security environment that would be fully corresponded to the challenges of the XXI century, the national interests of Ukraine and its international agreements and international efforts in the name of a safe future, was submitted for discussion at the parliamentary hearing.
