Chronicle of protests

On January, 19 after national meeting on “Euromaidan” in Kyiv, the group of radical protestors assaulted the border of militia in Grushevskyi Street.

On Monday, on January, 20, according to the instructions of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych a peacemaking working group was created in composition of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Andriy Klyuev, Minister of Justice Olena Lukash and adviser of the President Andriy Portnov.

During the night from Monday to Tuesday (on January, 20–21) collisions lasted. From the side of radical protestors the bottles with flame liquid, stones and sticks were thrown.

Ukraine met the Day of Unity and Freedom (January, 22) with sorrow in eyes. During the oppositions in Grushevskyi Street in Kyiv the victims appeared.

On January, 23 the second round of negotiations between the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and the participants of the working group on political situation crisis management with the leaders of opposition parliamentary factions took place. During negotiations the militiamen and protestors in Grushevskyi Street promised not to use force against each other. Negotiations did not give obvious progress on the way to overcoming of the crisis in the state.

On January, 24 protestors extended and fixed their positions, and also captivated the building of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy located within the limits of barricades of “Euromaidan”. Also in the western regions of the country the activists attacked and captured few premises of regional councils and state administrations.

During a weekend (January, 25–26) they captured the Ukrainian House that is on the European Square, forcing back the detachments of internal troops of the MIA out of there. The headquarter, first-aid post and place for heating were equipped there.  

On January, 27 lately in the evening after the negotiations between President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and the leaders of opposition parliamentary factions Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Vitaliy Klichko and Oleh Tyahnybok were finished, Minister of Justice Olena Lukash reported about the results of negotiations.

On January, 28 at around 10 a.m. immediately after the extraordinary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was open, on the site of the Cabinet of Ministers the information that Prime-Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov offered his resignation appeared.

On January, 29 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved for basis and on the whole the bill of the representative of President of Ukraine in the parliament Yuriy Miroshnychenko in relation to the amnesty of participants of protest actions. 232 folk deputies voted for such decision. Two visits of Viktor Yanukovych to the Verkhovna Rada in order to negotiate it with the Party of Regions faction preceded it.

On January, 30 Dmytro Bulatov, activist of “Automaidan”, who was kidnapped a week ago, was found in Vyshenky village of Boryspil district. According to him, unknown people beat and tortured him, cut his ear and even crucified him – he had punctures on his hands. The activist did not know who had stolen him, but he noticed that those men spoke with the Russian accent.

On January, 31 President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych signed laws on “amnesty” and on the abolition of the laws adopted on January, 16, the so-called laws on dictatorship.
