European regional projects. Self-determination of nations and the future of the EU

Permanent development of world political and legal space, world wars experienced during ХХ century, elimination of metropolises and redistribution of geopolitical influence between states gave the priority of the right of the nations on the self-determination, having declared it as one of the universally recognized principles of the international law. However, initially attached to the Charter of the United Nations (paragraph 1) in the year 1945, this right gradually began to contradict historically elaborated principle of territorial integrity of the state, according to which sovereign territory cannot be changed without its principal agreement.
