“Motherland”. How it happened

The Ukrainian people perceived fascist aggression as a frightful threat for existence. Over seven million of our compatriots bravely fought at the fronts, in partisan unions and in an underground space. The workers of rear selflessly worked for front, and 5.5 million people became donors. Almost 2.5 million Ukrainian warriors were awarded with the orders and medals, around two thousand warriors were honored with the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union, 39 of them got this rank twice, and I. Kozhedub – three times. More than 16 million workers of rear were awarded with medals “For valorous work during the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”.
