Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr RYBAK: “The main thing is to listen to people and to fulfill the pre-election promises”

On the eve of the New Year the Chairman of the Parliament Volodymyr RYBAK gave an interview to the parliamentary mass-media: TV channel “Rada”, magazine «Viche» and newspaper “Holos Ukrainy”.

There is a question which is asked by many – both the participants of the process in the session hall and the society. Did you, Volodymyr Rybak, a folk deputy, with a long-term experience change your perception of the Verkhovna Rada because of your new assignment? You used to look at the session hall from the seat of a folk deputy and you do it now from the presidium side.

The start of the work of the newly elected parliament showed that 445 deputies, including me, are the same. All of us are supported by electors. But the responsibility is different.

Being the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, you should apply all efforts to make our parliament become European. All deputies say: we want to Europe, electors declare: we cannot continue living like this, we need the European standards. Therefore I ask my colleagues: take your electoral programs, remember your promises, and let’s fulfill them together.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is obliged to organize the work of the unique legislative body. All is to be done to make the parliamentary majority listen to the minority, as well as to make the minority listen to the majority, and not to dictate (one’s conditions. - Editor). The Parliament does not have to work like it did during the first two days, and at the beginning of the plenary meeting on December, 18 I apologized before the electors for what took place in the walls of the Verkhovna Rada.
