Standing committee of councils is an important component of local self government

According to the statistics, during elections of 2010 over 225.6 thousand deputies were elected to 12088 local councils. In particular, deputy corps of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, region, Kyiv and Sevastopol city councils have 3030 persons.
The important constituent of work of regional councils is the activity of standing committees. In accordance with article 47 of the Law of Ukraine “On local self-government in Ukraine”, they are workings bodies which members are the deputies elected for a study, previous consideration and preparation of issues which the council is in charge of. Legal status, order of organization and activity of standings committees are also defined in the law.
