Choice of Being out of Blocks Made by Ukraine is Respected

“We continue to carry out all operating projects and programs of NATO, using the present instruments of bilateral collaboration, and in the future we will draw attention to the activity of the Commission “Ukraine–NATO”, to the realization of the annual national programs and work of common working groups”, – the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych marked, while conducting the meeting with the Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen within the framework of his official visit to Kyiv on February, 24, 2011.

“We are watching the adaptation of NATO to the new conditions with great interest. Reformation of NATO is important both for guaranteeing of safety for its countries-members and for subsequent active participation of organization in the support of peace and stability in the world”, – country's leader said.

During the meeting of the Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn the parties discussed the wide spectrum of questions of the parliamentary measuring of collaboration between Ukraine and NATO, dynamics of development of structural partnership with alliance after adoption of Law of Ukraine “On backgrounds of national and foreign policy”, and perspective directions of subsequent collaboration in the field of European and international safety. At this Volodymyr Lytvyn marked that “with stopping of political polemic round the problem of entry to NATO, in Ukraine the understanding was formed that the destination point is not as important as active mutually beneficial collaboration with the alliance for the good of national interests of Ukraine and safety in the world”.

After the meeting with the Secretary General of NATO Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov declared that Ukraine is ready to introduce the standards of NATO to the Military Powers of Ukraine. “Your standards of well equipped, small in quantity but mobile and technologically perfect modern army suits us. And we are ready to introduce them in our country”, – Mykola Azarov marked. He marked that Ukraine has powerful potential of military industrial complex and can be a supplier or participant of co-operation in such spheres as military cargo aviation, anti-missile and radio-locating systems, high-fidelity armament and armor.
