Imperative - anachronism

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksander Moroz conducted an Advisory Board on legal provisions for local government and regional development in the town of Korosten, Zhytomyr region.

The implementation of imperative mandate for the deputies of local boards was sharply criticized as a non-democratic instrument.

«We would have solved all the problems on local government if no one interfered with our work» - summarized Oleksander Moroz.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shares the opinion that the imperative mandate is a non-democratic instrument. «This is unacceptable; this is an anachronism, which also was pointed out by the Council of Europe» - he noted.

In general according to Oleksander Moroz we need to increase the role and the status of local government on the legislative level, «to abandon political influencing of life of communities» and to decentralize the power.
