Korsun-Shevchenkivskyy is the key to the liberation of the Right-Bank Ukraine

In the materials and works on the liberation of Ukraine from Nazi invaders, Korsun -Shevchenko offensive operation takes a special place. In the soviet historiography the work named “Stalingrad is on the Dnieper” is presented not only as one of the clearest examples of the victory of soldiers’ of the Red Army, but also as a sample of conducting battle-field offensive operation to troop round the enemy. New archival data proves that in fact the military reality was not so simple and was much dramatic compared to the assessments and interpretations in the published historical materials. However, this does not diminish the significance of the victory in the area of Korsun-Shevchenko for the successful completion of the third phase of the battle for the Dnieper and the subsequent liberation of the Right-Bank Ukraine.
