On February 21, 1990 Ukraine signed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and entered into force on September, 27, 1991. By this Convention Ukraine has made extensive commitments to children's rights to life, name, nationality, identity, family, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, education and adequate standard of living, protection from discrimination and illegal transportation, from illegal and arbitrary interference, protection from all forms of physical and psychological violence treatment, maltreatment and exploitation, including sexual.
